My mom gave William his first haircut so we let Eric's mom cut Matthew's hair.

I spoke with Levin's mother and father at about 6PM (eastern standard time) who are at Levins bedside. They gave me permission to pass along the information they shared with me. Everyone is still in shock and though it is slowly becoming more real, it seems fictitious, or at least we all wish it had been. I hope you will excuse me as I feel very inadequate writing about something so important, heartfelt and about people who are so love and now missed by all of us. I express my sincerest condolences
I will just start at the beginning. On Wednesday Levin, Amanda and Ansley went to visit Levin's parents in Greenville, SC until Thursday evening. They decided to drive home after 8pm so that Ansley (their little girl) could sleep most of the trip home. When they got to Columbus (still en-route) they witnessed a car accident three cars in front of them which they called 911 about. Because of this they had to wait and then were able to continue their journey home. When they were almost home to Goose Creek, SC (a suburb near Charleston) the car veered off to the left, Levin corrected to the right and the car was t-boned by a van. The accident took place at 11:45pm Thursday evening. Levin had to be cut out of the car and Amanda was in an extremely bad condition.
At 11am on Friday morning Amanda was pronounced dead. Levin was brought in to Amanda's side when they knew that time for her was running out. He was able to hold her hand and give her a kiss before she passed away. Amanda was in her second trimester as well with their second child, she had abdominal bleeding and the baby was lost also.
Levin has suffered muscle damage in the lower back, some breaking in the neck vertebrae (but nothing that has hurt any nerves), a crack in is collar bone, a fractured skull and bleeding in the brain. He is of course on pain medication but he is conscious and talking. I was actually able to speak with him shortly and considering the circumstances he is doing well. The doctors and nurses are all optimistic about his recovery and it seems that he will be okay. When speaking with him he was slow of speech but it was still the same great Levin. I am not sure how much he is taking in at the moment with all that has happened. Ansley is okay she has a "rug burn" on her forehead but she is okay.
We are all in such total shock. What a huge, huge loss. When speaking with Levin I told him that we are praying for them and want to do whatever we can to help. He said that prayers are all they can ask for and are much appreciated. Money and flowers can be sent to 109 Belleplaine Drive Goose Creek, SC 29445.

Nielsen family fun

We spent a wonderful week with Eric's family and enjoyed just hanging out with family. We had a fun time roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. It was the boys first time doing so. Matthew was pretty blase about the whole event but William enjoyed the chance to "cook" his own food, which he did eat.

Of course no roast is complete without marshmallows. William wasn't patient enough to wait for them so he helped himself to the bag. And while there was no chocolate I still indulged myself in a graham-mallow sandwich.

Eric's mom bought the boys these cute pajamas. William's said "handsome like my daddy" and Matthew's said "cutest kid ever." Just as a side note William's was a size 4T and Matthew was in 12-18 month old. I think my boys are growing up.
