We woke up this morning to rain, lots of it. One of the rental units that is sub level flooded but after emptying 30 loads of a 14 gallon wet/dry vac most of the water was out. Eric had to walk to the hardware store for a part for the sump pump which under normal conditions wouldn't be bad. But three blocks one way in rain water, that in some places was waist deep, was not an easy task. Why didn't he just drive? Well the streets were flooded and some cars were stuck. So he put on his swim trunks and walked over. An hour later he made it back.
So here are some pictures of our area.

Our house and driveway. Boy are we glad we live upstairs!

Our neighbors' front yard.
The fire department has been around helping people out of their homes. By the time they reached the end of the bushes on the right side they were knee deep in water.
If you look closely you can see a red paddle boat being used to get people around.
When Eric first walked by the water was just above the bumper of this truck. An hour and a half later when I took this picture the water had gone down some. At the moment the rain has died down but the forecast says the storm system is still overhead. We just hope it slacks off enough for us to dry up a bit.
Sometimes it rains, even in paradise.
**Update: The town 15 minutes away from us got 14 inches of rain in 12 hours. That was the most on the whole island. After checking all the pumps, we're getting ready for bed. The rain has stopped for now but is forecasted to come back in the next day or two. The weatherman said it "shouldn't" be as bad as the first time.

I'm all for rain... In fact I love the rain, but that might be too much rain even for me!!!!
Wow! And Chris and I were just talking about how much we missed Hawaii. That type of flooding happened when I was in the first trimester of my pregnancy with Bryson. I was deathly ill and confined to our studio apartment. My mom would tell me to go outside, that the sun would make me feel better. I would just cry and curse the rain.
I am glad you guys are upstairs too. We will pray that the rain doesn't do too much damage. Don't drown.
