Blueberry Heaven

This blueberry place isn't too far from where we're staying. Mt. Clemans farm started picking on Monday morning and I was determined to go first thing. However I got talked into waiting til the evening picking time so we could take more kids and we would be more awake to do a good job. I tell you the day seemed to drag for me as I eagerly awaited for 6 pm. As soon as dinner was done all those who were going were hustled into the van. Once we arrived I was relieved to see that only one car was there and I hoped they weren't picking the last of the crop. With a sigh of relief I saw several rows that were still heavy laden with fruit. We got two buckets, one for Travis and Emma the other one for Eric, William and myself and off we went.

Ok do you get the picture that I was ecstatic?! I was giggling almost the whole time. These berries were huge and all over. I lectured everyone picking that we only wanted the best berries and that they were forbidden to put any green or semi pink ones in the buckets. Thankfully Travis and Emma are avid blueberry eaters so they too wanted only the best. Unfortunately William needed a bit more coaching.

In the end we walked away with two full buckets weighting just over six pounds each. It cost $1.35 per pound and we paid a little over $16 for our loot. Back at home the berries were washed then consumed until about a fourth of them were gone! While William enjoyed picking the berries he does not like eating them. Matthew on the other hand found them the perfect size treat and his diaper the next day showed just how much he enjoyed them.
(Sorry if that's too much information!)

Many thanks goes to Dee and Mama who stayed home with Samuel and Matthew since they were too small to help in the picking. This allowed all our attention to be focused on getting only the best of the berries. Thanks also to Mama who fulfilled my request of having blueberry muffins for breakfast the next morning. Now that we're down to about two pounds left of blueberries I think it's time to go back. They'll be harvesting for the next month and I plan on making at least two more trips back!!
