I'm planning to take advantage of the free events that happen locally in the area. Not only does it keep us busy but also provides all of us some learning opportunities.
Starting things off was a cherry festival held at the Barrett Orchards. They had a pie eating contest, pit spitting contest, self guided tour of the area and a gift store. They also provided some free samples of some cherries, chocolate dipped cherries, smoked cheese and smoked salmon. You could also pick your own cherries and then pay by the pound. We took Emma, Howard, William, Matthew and Samuel to experience this.

Matthew didn't quite get the picking part. But the few times he did get something it went straight to his mouth.

We picked Bing and Rainer cherries. The Bing was $1.50/ lb and the Rainer $2.50/lb. We got about five pounds for just under twelve dollars.

The kids said their favorite part of the day was the hay ride to and from the parking lot. It was not what I hoped they would remember but at least we all had a good time.

How fun! Yummy cherries. I bet there are lots of fun orchards and stuff where you are now, it's great that you are able to visit some of them.
