For the holidays we did a science experience about things that sink and float. First I had William write the name of each item we were going to test, knight, ball and cranberries. Then in the next column he would predict if they would sink or float. After we tested each one he would complete it by recording the results.
The younger two wanted to try their toys too. Samuel really just wanted to splash in the water. He sleeves were wet by the time we were done.
After we saw what sank/floated I cut open a cranberry and let them see the air pockets and explained that's why it floats. William wanted me to cut open the ball too but Samuel would have been mad so we didn't. Afterwards we watched Dirty Jobs about working in the cranberry bogs. It didn't keep their interest long but they got to see how cranberries are harvested. I also let them sample some berries. Samuel popped it right in then made a face and spit it out. William didn't want to try it and once he did he made a bee line to the toilet to spit it out. Matthew was reluctant to eat it but afterward said "yummy Mommy more please."
