What is a Pickle?

Last night I learned something new. Eric and I were in bed watching the Food Network channel. They were talking about adding garlic to pickles. As they explained about the process they showed a field of cucumbers. I listened with new interest and then turned to Eric to make sure I was understanding things; "So they turn a cucumber into a pickle?!" Eric looked at me in disbelief, "A pickle is a cucumber." I was dumbfounded!! I had no idea that pickles were actually cucumbers in a jar! I honestly thought that pickles were their own fruit (yes I do know that cucumbers are a fruit not vegetable).

Anyway, I laughed and laughed. Eric rolled his eyes at me. Now in my defense I don't eat either of those things so I wouldn't know the similarities. I can now say when I look at pickles that I'll see them for what they really are. Cucumber impostors!!

Don't worry Jess...I was well into adulthood when this was brought to my attention. I blame our parents :)
